Baking FAIL

Alright it's time to make a confession: I'm more of a cook than a baker. Although I shouldn't really call it a confession - it's more of a realization. I love both but for some reason my baking "experiments" most often turn out to be disasters. It's sad really. Do you prefer cooking, baking, or both?

Today turned out to be a rather productive day minus the baking fail. I got a lot of school work done, got my butt  outside to work out (I "hiked" up and around Bellevue Hill - spent about an hour without realizing it! Next time I need to bring my camera), did my laundry finally, and made dinner. Also did you notice that I have a legit domain name now? Exciting. However, I'm not that great with the formatting of the site and such so does anyone have any tips on how to make it more personalized (like how do I put on my own banner, background, etc). Thanks!

I also managed to wake up a little bit earlier today than I have been. Guess when......10 AM! I know I'm ridiculous. I wasn't hungry right away though so I waited til 11 to eat brunch.

Sweet Potato Oats & Coffee
In the mix:
  • 1 cup skim milk
  • 1/2 cup old fashioned oats
  • 1/2 cup mashed sweet potato
  • couple of crumbled walnuts
  • 1 tbsp maple syrup
  • cinnamon
  • nutmeg
I don't usually add sugary substances to my meals but was feeling the maple syrup today. Even the tbsp ended up being too much though. After eating this I was obscenely full but it lasted me forever.

What was my baking fail you ask? Why it was Black Bean Brownies! There was just something not right about them. But I'm not one to waste so I threw them in the freezer and will eat them eventually.

What did turn out absolutely tasty was the beet greens! Like I said previously, no one here has eaten them before and they were a hit! I was going to saute them but ended up steaming them instead which was fine. We had some leftover broccoli as well and mixed it with some pasta and marinara sauce. Topped with some freshly grated parmesan and we were golden!

Raf's youngest sister even said she liked them better than spinach. Spinach is THE leafy green of the household so that is really saying something. YAY for finding a new veggie!

Tomorrow morning I will be picking the winner of my giveaway using a random number generator. Stay tuned!

Also, for my Exercise Assessment class we had to read an article on creatine supplementation and give our thoughts on it. I'm curious - what are YOUR thoughts on creatine?

  1. I made black bean brownies once and they were SO GROSS. I'll be anxious to hear of you eat all of yours :) And as for your question, I am totally a cook. Baking intimidates me and I'm not good at it.

    ...But I am getting better!

  3. Sorry to hear about your baking fail! I've only heard of a handful of *successful* batches of black bean brownies, so I wouldn't be too hard on yourself about it ;)

That last photo of your pasta dish looks SO GOOD! There's nothing more comforting that pasta covered in sauce and cheese :)

  4. Hee hee! I'm a late sleeper too! I'm the opposite when it comes to baking and cooking (had you noticed?). I'd bake all day and avoid cooking if I could. Oh wait, I do. ;)
