A little bit of a boring end of my day. We finished off pulmonary and moved on to renal disease in patho today. Good news I didn't fail the test on Tuesday, bad news its my worse grade out of the 3 exams. : / Snack time was a plain Chobani and about a quarter cup of mixed nuts (unsalted of course!).
I still had some sweet potatoes left from last week so I baked one to go with dinner. I also steamed some broccoli and made a boca burger on a whole wheat sandwich-thin with a little whole grain mustard. On the side was a glass of nonfat milk. I was a hungry girl for dinner!
I enjoyed a really nice hot bath tonight. I haven't taken a bath in a long time so it was relaxing. I always shower before taking a bath though because of the whole sitting in your own dirt scenario. That's not weird, is it? haha
Like I said, BORING, but posting nonetheless. Tomorrow will be much more exciting. Clinical, Headstart, Red Sox, out for the night!

The seed in my watermelon looked like a tick!
Waking up this morning was tough, I was in such a deep sleep! Misty didn't want to get up either hehe
I grabbed a cherry pie Larabar on the way out the door because I didn't want to be late. Multiple people present on the same projects and I wanted to get there early so I could go first.
However, even though I got to class early, I guess I was not ambitious enough because while waiting for my professor to turn the computer on another student jumped right up there to upload her presentation. I ended up being the last of 3 presenting on public speaking! Luckily we all had something a little different to share and it ended up not being so bad. Lesson: you don't have to be so afraid of public speaking, people want you to succeed.
When I got back from class I wanted to go for another run even though I am a little sore. That didn't turn out so well either. I made it about 200 yards before my knee gave out. I walked about a half mile loop and that's it. I feel like such a joke but at the same time I have read many things about not pushing your injuries. In the long run its better to take a few days off in the beginning to heal than to push through and make it worse so you are out of commission for weeks. After my mini walk I spent about 40 minutes concentrating on upper body and core strengthening, dancing, and stretching. I wasn't planning on dancing around but I had put some music on and couldn't help myself!
Lunch was more like breakfast. I made an omelot (1 whole egg + 1 white with a little spinach and feta cheese) and put it on a toasted sandwich-thin. On the side I had some watermelon, nice and juicy! However it was supposed to be seedless and there was 1 seed in my first bite! It looked just like a tick and I almost had to stop eating the watermelon but that's just my job getting to me. I've worked at an animal hospital for 6 years so I guess I've just got ticks on the brain. Yuck.
Since it's Earth day, I decided I want to get this clock. It was featured in the month's Self magazine and it looks so cool! Happy Earth Day!

I am falling apart
After lunch I decided to jump on that extra credit so I wrote up another case study. Then I decided to walk to the bank to take advantage of the weather again. I thought it was a good idea until my left knee started bothering me. I have such old lady knees! It also didn't help that my new flats that I bought from H&M completely tore up my ankles so they are red and raw. My feet are way too sensitive. No matter where I get shoes I always end up with blisters. Thin skin I guess.....
Tonight was my second to last Community Nutrition class. Topic of discussion was healthy aging. Yet again I say, I don't want to get old. I brought along a bagel-thin topped with peanut butter and raisins, a plain Chobani, and a kiwi. Somehow I forgot to snap a picture of the Chobani.
When I got home, it took me forever to finish my work-study assignment. I had almost forgotten about it! I just couldn't get the flow going so it took me twice as long as usual. I snacked on some Garden of Eatin' tortilla chips with the guacamole I bought yesterday. I can definitely say I'm never buying that guac again and am sticking to homemade from now on!
Now I am exhausted! Time to get everything ready for tomorrow. It's the big ol' presentation day......I hate public speaking. Better get used to it I guess...

I'm not a runner....but I want to be
This morning started out great. Man, I love the sunshine! It just automatically puts me in a better mood, ya know? I woke up pretty early because I had scheduled peapod for the morning to get an extra dollar off delivery. The delivery man was pretty grumpy considering how beautiful the day is. Maybe he was mad that he had to deliver groceries instead of spending time in the sun..... Anyway, after peapod I was able to make some nice 7 grain cereal w/ milk. I much prefer to make it with milk rather than water. I had some tasty grapes on the side and a cup of coffee too.
After breakfast I managed to bust out my case study writeup fairly quickly considering the very first one took me like 5 hours. This time it was about 1.5 hours and it was the fourth one. Yay for improvement! I hope I get a good grade on it .... I think I can do it fast enough now where I may try to do one or two for extra credit before the end of the semester : )
Since I was feeling so happy, I decided it's time for me to finally get out there and try this whole running thing again. I want to be a runner so bad but that's just the thing, I'm really bad at it right now. We all gotta start somewhere though right? So I jogged (not even close to running) 2 miles, though I actually had to walk about a half mile of that because it was a giant hill and I'm such a wuss. I felt really great afterwards. This is just the beginning. I'm hoping that by the end of summer I can consider myself a real runner and not just a wannabe. Disney Princess Half Marathon here I come! *fingers crossed* haha
When I got back I mixed some VitaCoco Coconut Water (pineapple flavor!) with water. Gotta savor it slowly because it's so expensive, that's why I diluted it.
Then shower time! I swear I was a mermaid in a past life because I could stay in water forever haha ; ) Even though it is nice outside, the inside of the house is freezing! I hate how that works. While watching DAYS, I made a veggie wrap. It was huge!
- 1/4 cup Bob's Red Mill 7 grain cereal
- 1/8 cup bulgur wheat
- 1 tbsp Bob's Red Mill ground flaxseed meal
- 3/4 cup nonfat milk
- 1 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
- cinnamon
- nutmeg
- 1 tbsp chopped walnuts

Bombed
and I don't mean "wasted" or "sloshed". I mean I feel like I completely bombed my patho exam. I hope there is a big curve.....
I studied until about midnight last night and had a kashi granola bar for a late night snack. I like the pumpkin flax one better than the honey 7 grain I had last week. I love anything pumpkin!
This morning started off with more studying before eating breakfast. Maybe eating my breakfast beforehand would have helped me out on the test. I had a bowl of 7 grain cereal with a little something new mixed in ;)
After my test I went to Shaws because grocery shopping makes me feel better. I'm so weird haha. I picked up some Bob's Red Mill Muesli, Truvia, some Larabars, some pre-made guacamole that was on sale!, multigrain frozen waffles, and frozen berry mix. I tried out the guac when I got home but I didn't like it very much compared to when I make it homemade : / So instead I mixed some cinnamon in plain Chobani and dipped a granny smith apple in it. Verdict: much tastier!
What a green and white set of snacks LOL. It's getting to be the end of the semester, I can't wait! I'm just trying to bust out the last of my assignments. The rest of the afternoon/evening I worked on my presentation on public speaking for my management class. I'm not too sure about it since I hate public speaking myself but we'll see how it goes. I also have to finish up my work-study assignment tonight after I'm done watching the Biggest Loser. Dinner was some brown rice with black beans, cod from last night, and some snap peas. Peapod is coming in the morning! I got some new fruit for this week since it was on sale - grapes and watermelon! Haven't had either in a little while so it will be a nice change of pace.
The rest of the week is looking pretty busy. Especially Friday but it will be fun :) April is almost over, woohoo!

A sudden case of hypoglycemia
My post yesterday was full of not-so-good foods so after I finished it, I had my leftover banana waffles with some plain Chobani and strawberries plus just a little bit of maple syrup and cinnamon. It was delicious :)
After all my complaining yesterday, my boyfriend and I ended up going out for the night and we went to Kelly's Roast Beef where I got the small roast beef sandwich with lettuce, tomato, and ketchup. We also then snuck in our order of cheese fries into the theater where I finally got to see Clash of the Titans. Since we were up in the North Shore, he took me to see the Madonna shrine too. It was locked up though so we couldn't get very close.
It was a nice change from our usual Sunday night. Since today was Patriots day, neither of us had classes and he didn't head back to Worcester until tonight. Yay for getting an extra day with my honey. I can't wait for the semester to be over because I miss him a lot when he is gone. We used to live together in Worcester but since we started grad school we have been separated most of the time.
"Breakfast" was very late again today, at approximately 2 in the afternoon. I don't know what was up with me but after being up for 10 minutes or so my blood sugar dropped dramatically and I downed 2 glasses of OJ as my vision was about to go. I'm not diabetic but I've had the occasional hypoglycemic episode over the past few years. The worst was when I almost passed out in church. Ever since then my dad always interrogates me to make sure I've eaten beforehand. I can't help it that church is so early I'd rather sleep than eat! Once I was functional again, I made us some eggs (1 whole egg with 2 extra whites) and split it between us. On the side I had a toasted sandwich thin with peanut butter and plain Chobani with strawberries and cinnamon.
That meal held me over for a long time while I got busy studying for my pathophysiology exam for tomorrow. I also drank a coffee to help fuel the study session. I probably made about 130 flashcards over the course of 6 hours. It took me a while but it's a lot of information. The exam is on upper and lower GI disorders, bariatric surgery, diabetes, liver and pancreatic disorders, cancer, carb counting, and the exchange system. Whew......I've definitely got to study some more. Dinner was some whole wheat penne w/ marinara sauce and I added in some spinach and peas, topped off with a little bit of grilled cod.
Back to the routine and back to studying.....

Weekends are basically complete disasters
The title says it all. Everything seems to fall apart on my weekend, probably because there is no structure like during my weekdays. The other part is that it is when my boyfriend comes to visit. I end up staying up to all hours, sleeping the days away, and eat junk food. I have this bad connection between relating my boyfriend to junk food. It's probably because we met in college. We were not part of the "lets go to a party and drink ourselves into oblivion every weekend" crowd. We were and still are the "lets grab some food and a movie and spend the night in" crowd. Or of course sometimes it can mean going out but that still involves food and a movie!
Rewind to Friday for dinner. A nice small plate of whole wheat spaghetti w/ chopped zucchini, red bell pepper, and asparagus (from the night before). This was before my boyfriend got home.
Then later that night, it's movie time. And the snacks of choice include munchos, cheetos, and a cheese danish. I of course ate some of each but only snagged a picture of the cheetos. This concludes feeling horrible night 1.
The next "morning" we had some banana waffles topped with strawberries and a little maple syrup and a glass of nonfat milk. Not too bad I'm thinking but I could have had a better choice. Oh and by "morning" I really mean noon.
Then around 5 we had dinner, or so I thought. I had a small piece of salmon with about a half a cup of brown rice and a spoonful of beans along with a spinach salad. That meal sounds even better. I think things are looking up! But I forgot to take a picture of the fantastic meal......
We went shopping at Legacy Place in Dedham which made my day. I got a bunch of nice things at H&M which even though my boyfriend complained, I consider complete investment. They will last a long time! I got a tan trenchcoat, a short black button up coat, a pair of plain black flats, a pair of gladiator sandals, and some nautical wedges, a bathing suit (only $10 for top and bottom!), a new umbrella, and a classic white t-shirt. All investments, am I right? After that we were going to see Clash of the Titans because I've been wanting to see it since it came out. However, plans changed. We ended up going out to eat dinner about 3 hours after we had just eaten dinner. We went to the Brickhouse Cafe in Dedham because we had gift certificates. Honestly I didn't think it was that great and I didn't eat much of my meal. We started off with drinks. I got the "slush puppy" which was very sweet like I like them and tasted like the syrup at the bottom of a sno-cone but with a bang. Then I had a piece of bread dipped in olive oil while we waited for our meal. I had ordered the "pasta nicole" which was multigrain spaghetti with grilled chicken, sundried tomatoes, spinach, pinenuts, and prosciutto. Dessert was white chocolate creme brulee which was actually too sweet for me to eat all of. After that we ended up not going to see the movie at all. Bummer. Later that night I felt so sick again. End of horrible night 2.
So today was the start of a new day and after feeling horrible for 2 nights I really wanted to get back to my routine. We had stayed up til 4 last night so I didn't wake up until between 1 and 2 (!!!) and then I had some whole wheat penne with sauce and a bite of a chicken sausage. I'm not a big sausage fan but I wanted to try it. Not surprisingly I didn't like it. Afterwards I had a small spinach salad with balsamic and a glass of nonfat milk.

I still feel horrible in general. Remember Sundays are Blahdays. I think I just need to get out and about or something. Retail therapy only works so much I guess.
How do the weekends usually turn out for you? Are yours unstructured or do you usually follow the same pattern as during the weekdays?
